Dr Paul Muir

A doctor of Agricultural Science, Paul has published more than 80 refereed applied-research articles covering sheep, cattle, deer and forages. He has a sound understanding of farming systems and a wide range of research skills. For more than 30 years, Paul has worked in dryland farming systems, recently focusing his research on the role of lucerne and plantain in East Coast dryland.

“Improving hill country profitability is often about getting better animal growth rates, and introducing more legumes is a key part of this. I will be working to identify the right legumes for different farming systems and how best to use them. To ensure maximum practical application, much of this work will be undertaken on farmer properties and will be linked with work being undertaken at Lincoln University.”
